Editor’s note: This month’s Business Beacon is a spotlight on Destin Hot Yoga, a seven-day-a-week yoga studio in Miramar Beach. Co-owners Tracey Sledge and John Jakubiak talk to us about yoga classes for all experience levels and their unique in-studio experience. Find them on the web, Facebook and Instagram.
Do you have an interesting topic you think we should cover? Leave a comment below!
1. How did you get the idea or concept for your business?
TS: We both love practicing hot yoga.
2. Let’s discuss numbers: What year did you open? How many locations do you have? How many people do you employ?
TS: We purchased the business in July 2016, we have one location in Miramar Beach and we employ 12 people.
3. What do you sell or what service do you provide? What’s your best seller?
TS: We offer hot yoga classes seven days per week.
4. What’s unique about what you do or offer?
TS: We have the best yoga instructors on the Emerald Coast and that, along with our community focus, creates a perfect environment for our clients to practice yoga and be part of our loving community.
5. How would you describe your business to a potential customer?
TS: We offer yoga classes for everyone at any level of experience with yoga.
6. What do you love most about your line of work?
TS: Helping our clients grow in their yoga journey.
7. What sorts of trends are you seeing in your industry?
TS: Yoga keeps growing as more people discover the health (both physical and mental) benefits of the practice.
8. Tell me in just a sentence or two what you feel sets you apart from your competitors.
TS: We have the best yoga instructors around, every one of them is at least 200 hours certified and they all focus on continuing education. That, along with our studio environment being heated with infrared heat panels, creates the perfect temperature and humidity, a unique experience for our clients.
9. Who or what inspires you? This could be a family member or celebrity, a particular quote or even a book/movie/podcast. The sky’s the limit!
TS: Watching our clients grow in their yoga journey is truly inspiring.
10. What’s the best thing about being a part of the Emerald Coast, personally and/or professionally?
TS: The people who live in our area make the Emerald Coast a very special place.
11. Are you/your business involved in the community in any way? Volunteering or giving back? If so, how?
TS: We always donate to local charities and with John having retired from the Navy, we have a special place for military personnel and their needs.
12. What does a typical day in your business look like? (Pretend it’s Monday (or Friday!) and take me through the highlights of your day.)
TS: We open about 5:30 a.m. for our first class at 6 a.m., the hit power hour, which our early birds really enjoy. We typically have another two classes in the morning; then we use our time mid-day to catch up on studio work. We then have either one or two evening classes and close for the day.
13. What’s your best “insider tip?” (This could be a community tip for vacationers or homeowners or even a tip for customers related to your business.)
TS: Try our hot yoga! You’ll love it!
14. How do you recharge or relax when the day is done?
TS: Watching the sunset on one of our beautiful beaches.
15. Just the deets, please! Where are you located? Business hours? Social media profiles and/or website links we need to know about? (Please feel free to add social media handles or direct links!)
TS: We are located at 11275 Emerald Coast Hwy (Highway 98) in Miramar Beach. Our schedule can be found on our website. We also are active on Facebook and Instagram.
16. One final question: If there was just one thing you wish the public knew about your business, what would it be?
TS: You don’t have to be flexible to practice yoga! You practice yoga to build both strength and flexibility.
