The “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” plays host to the richest off-shore fishing tournament on the Gulf Coast in late June. The 17th annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic takes place at Sandestin Resort June 19-23, 2019. The five-day event is dotted with free activities for the public including Movie Night at the Marina June 18; a Kids’ Catch and Release Tournament June 21; fish weigh-ins, live music and fireworks. Anglers can register for the Classic here, as can golfers who want to participate in the ECBC Golf Scramble on June 19.
A majority of the events are open to the public and free of charge. The only fees applicable during the Classic are assessed to anglers and those participating in the golf scramble. A complete schedule of events is available here.
Insider Tip: Have kids participating in the Catch and Release Tournament? Feel free to bring their rods and reels, though some will be available on-site. 2018 saw the highest number of participating boats to-date at 91, with the highest purse paid at more than $2 million. The event even holds a record with a 899.6 pound blue marlin caught, making weigh-ins a particularly exciting spectator event year-after-year.
