Great places to eat on vacation do not necessarily have to serve gourmet food, have great views, or be expensive. Sometimes casual and quirky, or classic and comfortable fill the bill perfectly.
If you’re enjoying the sun and sea in Destin, FL, here are three places to eat at that are memorable. Check them out:
McGuire’s Irish Pub

A long-time favorite, with a sister location in Pensacola, you can’t go wrong here. Open except for Thanksgiving and Christmas from 11 a.m. to (usually) 2 a.m., the pub serves great food. You can find items like omelets to start the day to sandwiches, great burgers, and perfectly done steaks. There’s seafood, too.
The beer is on-site brewed, including frosty root beer, and one of the favorite features at the eatery is the “senate bean soup,” served as a starter to accompany an entree. There’s also “comfort food” such meat loaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans for just $6.99.
McGuire’s is large, loud, friendly and not-to-be-missed when you’re in Destin.
Merlin’s Pizza

This is a bit of a departure, but even on vacation, a really good pizza in a fun place that can be easily followed by a stroll for ice cream or even a movie at the nearby theater has made Merlin’s appealing to many. Some people call it a “local dive,” but everybody loves the pizza. Merlin’s serves beer and wine, and has salads, wings, other snacks and some pasta choices as well.
But the pizza? Well, there are lots of choices — pesto, alfredo, Jamaican jerk — you get the point. Toppings are generous. Options are abundant. Extra cheese? No problem. Service is friendly, fast, efficient.
What’s not to love? It’ll spoil you for any other pizza once you get home.
Burrito Del Sol

Fish tacos ordered from an Airstream trailer on the beach? Watching the local “circus” of activity from a picnic table close to the water? Good food? You bet: All of the above. There is a traditional building location in downtown Fort Walton Beach, just across the waterway — the food’s the same, fresh and delicious; the atmosphere’s a little calmer, the menu includes some items — taco salad and guacamole, for example — that aren’t available from the Airstream, but both locations are right at the top of a lot of “favorites” lists.
Closed on Sundays, Burrito Del Sol is crowded most other days. Friendly, fast, inexpensive and great. It’s a quick meal to get you back to the beach party in short order, with a full stomach and a happy smile. Destin’s beach trailer is open until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights.
As with any Florida beach, there are other places to eat, and many places to drink, listen to music, and watch the water. Explore Destin’s restaurants today! You won’t go wrong here. Destin is a casual town, meant to be explored and enjoyed in beach attire.
