South Walton Fashion Week (SWFW) is an exciting and much anticipated large-scale, multi-day series of fashion related events taking place in beautiful South Walton, Florida along Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast. The event begins Wednesday, October 5, 2016 and runs until Sunday, October 9, 2016. The main event takes place in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin. SWFW celebrates high fashion with a jam packed schedule of festivities including the launch party featuring emerging designers and models, local and national designers, stores and boutiques, runway shows, special designer shows, trunk show events, pop-up shops and other special events.
The Style Lounge, under the SWFW tent, features pop-up boutiques, a VIP lounge and a full bar, along with the main theater and runway. Other exciting fashion events, parties and trunk shows take place in boutiques, bars, restaurants and venues throughout South Walton.
Emerging designers from around the country will journey to South Walton Fashion Week to debut their latest collections in hopes of being selected as the Emerging Designer of 2016. Nearly 100 models from around the Southeast will walk the SWFW Runway showcasing original designs as well as their own talent. Two models will be selected for the Sheila Goode Model of the Year Awards.
One of the more exciting aspects of SWFW this year is that Christian Siriano and Ashley Longshore will be attending as guest judges. Many know Christian from the television show, Project Runway, but he is so much more. Following his studies in London under Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, Christian Siriano launched his collection in 2008. The Christian Siriano collection is now shown each season at New York Fashion Week, and presented in New York and Paris to retailers. In 2012 the first flagship Christian Siriano store opened on Elizabeth Street in New York City, and in 2013 he was inducted as a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). He has been called “the new king of old-school glamour” by Elle and “the next billion-dollar designer” by Yahoo! Style‘s Lauren Sherman. His designs have appeared on the world’s biggest stars and most prestigious red carpets.
Ashley Longshore is also a guest judge for SWFW. Her pop art paintings are never shy of daring; her art makes noise and people are listening. Ashley is a self-proclaimed “Urban Hippie” in that she enjoys being one with nature as much as she does shopping on Madison Avenue. A prolific artist at a pivotal moment in her career, she has been compared to Andy Warhol by Town & Country Magazine, for her obsession with pop culture figures and brands as well as her relationships with celebrities. She has had major collaborations with brands such as Chloe, and Anthropologie and has emblazoned the path for pop art and fashion to coexist. Her work has been featured in magazines in both the United States and countries around the world.
South Walton Fashion Week (SWFW) was created in 2013 by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA) as a way to showcase South Walton’s growing fashion scene and increase cultural tourism. SWFW is also instrumental in raising funds for the CAA’s Art for All Program which provides much-needed arts education dollars to teachers, students, artists and arts organizations. SWFW is presented by Visit South Walton and produced by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County in partnership with Monark Events. More information is available at swfw.org and be sure to follow South Walton Fashion Week on Facebook and other social media channels for event updates. Tickets will be on sale at swfw.org with special lodging packages, VIP packages, launch party tickets and much more.
