Watersound Club Unveils Third Championship Course

Davis Love III brings strategic coastal design to Watersound Club’s newest golf course.

The St. Joe Company has officially expanded its golf footprint along northwest Florida’s coast with the debut of its newest Watersound Club course — its third — designed by golf legend Davis Love III and Love Golf Design.

Set within the growing Watersound community, the new course builds on a carefully curated vision: championship-level play paired with the relaxed sophistication that defines the Emerald Coast lifestyle. For Watersound Club members, it represents more than additional tee times. It’s an evolution of the club experience itself.

“This course reflects our long-term vision of creating world-class amenities for our members and residents,” said Jorge Gonzalez, president and CEO of The St. Joe Company, in the official announcement. “We are proud to partner with Davis Love III and Love Golf Design to deliver a course that both challenges and inspires.”

Love, a major champion and former U.S. Ryder Cup captain, is known for crafting courses that feel both strategic and natural—layouts that reward thoughtful play while embracing the character of the land. His firm, Love Golf Design, has built a reputation for creating courses that are playable for members yet capable of hosting high-level competition.

“We design courses that fit the land and feel like they’ve always been there,” Love said in the release. “Our goal is to create a course that golfers want to play again and again.”

The new Watersound Club course continues that philosophy. Routing leverages the native topography, with wide fairways that encourage creativity off the tee and green complexes that test precision. Strategic bunkering, subtle elevation shifts and carefully preserved natural areas give the course visual drama without sacrificing playability.

For The St. Joe Company, the opening is part of a broader strategy to expand Watersound Club’s appeal as a private membership destination. The club now encompasses multiple championship golf courses, beach access, dining venues, wellness amenities and gathering spaces—designed to serve full-time residents and second homeowners alike.

As northwest Florida continues to attract buyers seeking lifestyle-driven communities, golf remains a powerful draw. Along 30A and into Panama City Beach, private club membership has increasingly become a differentiator for luxury neighborhoods, particularly as more families and remote professionals choose to make the coast their primary home.

Adding a third course enables Watersound Club to enhance member access while hosting more events and tournaments without disrupting everyday play. It also reinforces the club’s reputation as one of the premier private golf offerings in the region.

From a design standpoint, Love Golf Design often emphasizes walkability, strategic shot values and a connection to the surrounding environment. Rather than relying solely on length for difficulty, these courses tend to challenge golfers through angles, wind exposure and green contouring — elements well suited to the coastal landscape.

The St. Joe Company has steadily invested in hospitality, residential development and recreation throughout its portfolio. The Watersound area in particular has evolved into a master-planned coastal community anchored by club amenities, outdoor recreation and proximity to the Gulf of Mexico.

For members, the new course means expanded playing options and fresh experiences within a familiar club culture. For prospective buyers, it signals continued investment in long-term value and lifestyle infrastructure.

In a region where sunshine is abundant and outdoor living is a way of life, championship golf remains both a pastime and a point of pride. With Davis Love III’s design now part of the Watersound Club portfolio, The St. Joe Company adds another layer to a community built as much around experience as it is around real estate.

As Love noted, the ultimate goal is simple: “We want golfers to walk off the 18th green already looking forward to their next round.”

With this newest addition, Watersound Club members won’t have to look far.
